JVC MX-GB5 Compact Audio System with 3-Disc CD Carousel Specifications

This strikingly modern audio system (think Robocop) is ideal for an afternoon in the backyard, or even a night on the sofa. Unlike many mini systems, the MX-GB5 packs plenty of power, with 460 total watts split among two G-Max Hyper Power-Drive subwoofers (160 watts x 2) and two main speakers (70 watts x 2). The subwoofers give the unit punching bass, which is further amplified by the RhythMax tone booster, the Extended Super Bass option, and the trio of live surround modes (dance club, hall, and stadium). Also included are several individual music modes–one each for pop, rock, and classic, plus three custom choices.

The system holds up to three CD in its rotating carousel and is compatible with CD, CD-R/RW, and MP3 formats. However, it also records music on its dual cassette deck with full-logic controls, and also plays the radio on its AM/FM tuner with 45 total presets (30 FM and 15 AM). The cassette deck includes CD synchro recording, which synchronizes the cassette deck and CD player to ensure that recording starts at the exact same moment as playback, along with the convenience of play exchange, which ensures that the current CD continues playing even while the listener adds new ones to the carousel. Other user favorites include a programmable wakeup and sleep timer; a demo mode; Compu play; continuous, random, and repeat play for one or all three discs; and a rotary encoder volume control. Signal transfer is coordinated by the 1-bit dual DAC.

The system is designed as a standalone unit, though it does include a front auxiliary input and a headphone jack.

Play all of your music–from CD to iPod–with the JVC UX-LP5 micro component system, which features 70 watts of total power and a retractable flip dock places your iPod front and center. JVC FS-7000 Executive MicroSystem Specifications

To look at the JVC FS-7000 Ultra Compact component system is to want to play it, and to play it is, unavoidably, to love it. This system was designed for a tiny space and it sounds so inviting at low levels that you’ll keep reaching for the volume knob.

With its champagne-gold aluminum face plate and European cherrywood speakers, the FS-7000 is an eye pleaser. But the real value lies in its effortless 13-watts-per-channel sound, which, from the single CD or built-in tuner, comes through clear, punchy, and surprisingly loud for speakers with 3-inch cones. On our test material, voices were rendered sweetly and naturally, producing extended high frequencies without subjecting us to steely sibilance or blatant peakiness. The FS-7000’s CD player successfully delineated complex instrumental passages with a little help from the Active Hyper-Bass function, which lends the low end some much-needed presence (you’ll probably leave this on).

In comparing the onboard CD player with a standalone player piped in through one of two line inputs, the sound–and in particular the soundstaging–was clearly better from the standalone. This suggests that the FS-7000’s preamp/amplifier stages are of higher quality than the onboard CD player.

While the JVC FS-7000’s most endearing feature is its good sound, convenience also ranks highly. Besides fitting nicely on a 15-inch stretch of shelf space, the system offers tone controls, a line-level input and output (to accommodate a MiniDisc recorder or tape deck), and a dedicated subwoofer output for those who want real heft in the playback. All of these features are reigned in through a proportionately large, vertical-stance, full-function remote control.

A handy clock/timer with 20-minute back-up power and snooze function enables the FS-7000 to provide a musical wake-up call, while a dual-layer (orange and blue) FL display shows a digital representation of an analog clock when the unit is off.

Though some assembly is required (namely connecting the speakers with the neatly soldered speaker wire, which is provided), the FS-7000 was a breeze to operate and program and should pose little threat to the technologically wary.

This stereo features a top load CD player, digital tuner, 13 watts per channel, Active Hyper Bass Super Pro, and full clock radio functions; all built-in. The system provides outstanding sound with Ceramic Hyper Olefin Cones and edgewise-wound, 4-layer voice coils. The JVC FS-7000 also features 1-bit D/A converter, Electronic Bass and Treble Controls, Motor-driven volume control, Digital Tuner with 30 FM and 15 AM Station Memory and COMPU PLAY. Dual-layer Fluorescent display features analog clock when unit is off. Full function remote control is also included. Easy system expansion is allowed with line input/output, auxiliary input, subwoofer output, and optical digital output.

Don't be fooled by the FS8000, because for the difference in price between a 7000 and 8000, you can buy a better quality sub than one that is provided with the 8000. I would definately recommend a subwoofer to "complete" the sound. 2. Aesthetically pleasing: unit's champagne colour ,cherry-wood speakers and glass lid look more expensive than it really is 3. Coolness factor. Lets face it, as with PRO #2, it looks really cool 4. Separate BASS/TREBLE controls 5. SUB output 6. No built-in cassette deck. 7. Digital/optical out provides expandibility for MD 8. Reasonable price

Within a very few minutes I had my JVC FS-7000 up and running. I was very impressed with how little space the unit takes and the quality of the sound. The manual was very easy to use and I quickly had my favorite FM stations programmed into memory.

I would highly recommend it for anyone who has very little space and wants a great sounding system.

Recently I purchased the JVC FS-V5 for the bedroom, and now I splurged on this one for my home office. I admit I prefer the styling of this unit over the FS-V5, and the wooden speaker boxes with quality speaker cable are very worthwhile.

The sound is fantastic – it is quite amazing to hear what those tiny speakers can do. The sound compares very well with my main audio system.

However, the display is not as well designed as that of the FS-V5. In addition, the clock irritates me: the display settings are NOT remembered, so each time you turn the unit on or off, your preferred settings are reset. For example, suppose you prefer only the analogue clock face when the unit is on. Turn the unit off, and then on again, and the radio frequency or cd track information is back.

Another problem is the loudness of the cd transport system – both the spinning of the cd, and the movement of the optical head is noisy. Since I tend to play my music relatively loud, it does not bug me, but the noise is definitely audible during the quiet between tracks. I would suggest that someone who prefers their music at low volume had better use headphones or buy something else (like the JVC FS-V5, whose transport is much quieter).

All in all, it does everything I want it to do, in style, and I am certainly happy with my purchase.
